Three rules that protect against stroke.
For the study, approximately 22,000 Americans at the age of over 45 years have been observed during five years. The subjects completed questionnaires dedicated to their lifestyle habits. This was then along evaluated with the incidence of strokes. It was found that participants with an optimal lifestyle suffered from stroke half as likely as participants who often violate any rules.
In addition to proper control of blood pressure the avoidance of tobacco use had a significant influence on the reduction of risk of stroke. So the subjects who doesn’t smoke at least one year, lower risk of having a stroke on 40 percent. Also very great was the influence of blood sugar. It has been known that diabetes is one of the major risk factors of a stroke.
For the other lifestyle factors, the protective effect was less in front of a stroke. Nevertheless, low cholesterol level, physical exercise, healthy eating and normal weight are important health conditions, as they reduce the likelihood of a heart attack.
