May 31 is World No Tobacco Day – it’s never too late to quit
Despite frequent warnings and constantly rising tobacco prices still smoking about 20 million people in the United States. Here, smoking is the leading preventable cause of death, dying of the day between 250 and 300 Americans. But why is smoking really as dangerous and stopping so difficult at the same time?
Over twenty-five years ago, was of the 31st May was proclaimed World No Tobacco Day. For a long time it is known that the use of tobacco, whether active or passive can have serious health consequences. And even though this risk is well known, still engage in all age groups, more men than women smoke cigarettes. The cigarette – toxic cocktail for the body.
Both with active smoking and passive smoking, the human body takes a true poison cocktail. Meanwhile, more than 4800 substances have been identified that arise when burning a single cigarette and of which at least 70 substances are toxic or carcinogenic or are suspected to be carcinogenic. In addition to the addictive nicotine and tar this includes substances such as nitrosamines, arsenic, nickel, cyanide compounds, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, to name only the most famous. It does not matter whether slight or strong cigarettes are consumed, because less tar and nicotine does not automatically healthier. Especially since many smokers inhale more deeply not only in light cigarettes, special attack more frequently for a cigarette, so they take up more of the harmful impurities in the end.
Smoke free, but how?
