Treating Multiple Sclerosis patients with Sound Therapy

Patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) often suffer from paresthesia which provoke incoordination or pain. Coordinate movements is become hard. A new study shows that the so-called Sound Therapy can improve the mobility of people with Multiple Sclerosis.Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the nervous system, is in the myelin sheath that surrounds the nerve fibers, it’s attacked and destroyed by disease. Thus, the transmission of signals from the brain to the body is become more difficult or completely interrupted, causing various symptoms such as increased muscle tension, muscle weakness, numbness, vision problems or fatigue. The disease is so far incurable and the individual consequences unpredictable of course.

Now a study has demonstrated that the movement ability of MS patients can be improved through regular therapy with the sound couch. The deck consists of a wooden sound lying area, under the 26 strings are attached. The therapist sits beside the bed and stroking her hands over the strings, all tuned to the same note. This creates a long-lasting deep tone, and the vibrations are transmitted to the patient’s body. His breathing become deeper, muscle tensions are released and intensifies the perception of the body.

The study was supervised by the music therapists. 60 Multiple Sclerosis patients were divided into two groups, one of which weekly therapy with Sound Therapy received a twice, while the other was treated in a hydro-jet massage couch. Among other things participants were tested on the subject how fast they manage with making 25 steps. It was found that the MS patients who had received a sound therapy chairs, could move easier. The therapy had a positive influence: the gross and fine motor had improved, and also the mental state, which is frequently impaired in MS patients. Thus, the treatment with the Sound Therapy is a proven effective therapeutic option for treating certain symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.
